Compensation for Occupational Diseases
Cincinnati’s Occupational Disease Lawyers
When people think of workers’ compensation, they generally think of workplace accidents. Nevertheless, many cases covered by workers’ compensation arise from diseases that result from working in certain occupations. At Harris & Burgin, our lawyers help injured workers suffering from occupational disease throughout the greater Cincinnati area. We offer free initial consultations to anyone who thinks they may suffer from an occupational disease.
What is an occupational disease?
“Occupational disease or illness” results from exposure over a period of time to a substance that is common in your workplace, but is rare elsewhere. If your physician diagnoses you with an occupational illness, you may be eligible for benefits. See below for a list of some of the most common occupational diseases.
Examples of Occupation Diseases*
- Asthma
- Histoplasmosis
- Heart Attacks
- RADS
- Chemical Exposure
- Chemical Hypersensitivity
- Dermatitis & other occupational skin diseases
- Lead Poisoning
- Latex Allergy
- Noise related hearing loss
- Silicosis
- Occupational respiratory diseases such as: occupational asthma, mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other forms of lung cancer and lung disease
*Please be aware that occupational diseases are not limited to the ones mentioned above. Also, keep in mind that the diseases listed above are not always related to work.
What should I do if I think I have an occupational disease?
The first step if you believe you may have an occupational illness is to see your doctor. The process starts upon diagnosis. Then that diagnosis must be connected to the conditions on your job site. You have six months to apply for benefits upon receiving your diagnosis OR two years from the onset of any disability, whichever period is longer.
When dealing with any occupational disease, receiving the proper advice and representation is absolutely vital. Do not attempt to handle your case without seeing an experienced occupational disease lawyer.
The attorneys of Harris & Burgin can offer you a free initial consultation with a lawyer experienced in handling occupational disease claims. If we take your case, we will charge you nothing until you receive compensation.
